He had contested the elections from Bhopal seat in 1999 against former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti but had to face defeat. Uma Bharti defeated Suresh Pachauri by more than 1.5 lakh votes. After this, in the year 20213, he contested the election from Bhojpur seat against Rajendra Patwa and here also he had to face defeat.
